Trading session - a period of time during a business day during which securities are traded through a trade organizer.
Types of trading sessions
All trading sessions are divided into four types:
Pacific session. Includes two main exchanges: the Australian Stock Exchange and the New Zealand Stock Exchange. This session runs from 0:00 to 9:00 (GMT + 3).
Asian session. Includes major exchanges such as the Tokyo Stock Exchange, the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and the Singapore Stock Exchange. This session lasts from 3:00 to 12:00 (GMT + 3).
European session. The most volatile of the trading sessions. Covers the operation of exchanges in London, Paris, Zurich, Frankfurt, Switzerland, Spain and Luxembourg. This session lasts from 10:00 to 18:00 (GMT + 3).
American session. The largest session in terms of trading volume. Consists of two trading floors: in New York and Chicago. This session runs from 16:00 to 23:00 (GMT + 3).
